How to Raise Your Vibration

how to raise your vibration

‘Raise your vibration’ might seem like a catchy buzzword these days, but through my self-introspection and experiences over the last few months, it’s become clear to me that there is much truth to the whole ‘your vibe attracts your tribe’ thing that motivational posters on Pinterest keep spouting at us!

What is your vibration? Have you ever wondered what it meant to have a high or low vibration? I like to think of your vibration as the energy that you’re putting out into the world. When you combine this with the principles of ‘Law of Attraction’, which implies that like attracts like, you’ve got a whole new way of thinking about your energy and what you’re doing with that energy.

What Does It Mean to Live a High Vibration Life?

When you raise your vibration, you are raising your frequency, the level of energy that you’re putting there, and opening up to more positive experiences in life. You will feel lighter, happier, and more at peace.

Here are some signs that you’re already living a high vibration life:

  • You feel like your life has meaning and purpose
  • You’re happy and content with life, even as you have higher goals in place
  • You’re thankful for all that you have
  • You feel at peace and do not create or invite drama
  • You have a clear sense of your boundaries and you actively enforce them as needed
  • You are in charge of your emotions and not the other way around
  • You feel motivated and in tune with your true desires and passions
  • You feel healthy, physically and mentally
  • Your life is not perfect but you are able to process and deal with setbacks or losses better

If you’re going through a low phase in your life, all this might seem too aspirational to even think about, but the truth is, once you start with making one little positive change in your life and move forward with that momentum, you will feel things start to turn around for you.

18 Ways to Raise Your Vibration

I’ve got 18 ideas for how you can raise your vibration and attract more positive energy, but here’s the thing – you do not need to start doing all of it right away. Pick one or two things and make them a part of your life and once they become more second nature for you, move on to the next thing and so on.

1| Get rid of clutter

Clutter is anything that holds you back – it can be physical, mental, or emotional. Physical clutter could include all the knickknacks in your living room or it might refer to old clothes and other items in your closet that don’t fit into your current style. Mental and emotional clutter refers to the ideas we keep bringing up over and over again in our mind such as worrying about money or obsessing over someone we can’t have.

To raise your vibration, you need to get rid of the clutter and things that no longer serve a purpose in your life. A clear mind and clean space will allow you to make room for better things in your life.

2| Journal it out

Speaking of clear minds… I’ve found journaling to be an excellent way to try to get rid of emotional and mental clutter. It can be your safe space to explore your inner thoughts and also to process specific events, or even just a simple brain dump to get things out of your mind.

If writing does not do it for you, or you find it too arduous, you can even try recording your thoughts, feelings, and dreams as audio notes.

Get real with yourself, and get clear to move forward and raise your vibration.

3| Sleep well

Sleep is important for many reasons, including keeping your immune system healthy and helping you manage stress. It can also affect your moods throughout the day as well as your energy levels.

Not getting enough sleep, especially when it becomes a pattern over many weeks and even months, can leave you feeling less alert, crabby, irritable, or just plain unproductive, none of which is a high-energy vibe. So to uplevel your vibrations, it’s important to maintain good sleeping habits and get adequate rest.

4| Nourish your body with healing, energizing foods

If you’re like most people, your body is probably in need of some TLC. It’s likely that many of us are not eating the foods our bodies require to function at their best – and this can affect how we feel both physically and mentally.

I’m quite literally the worst at this! I eat for my feelings and from personal experience, I know that despite the momentary comfort that junk food or foods high in sugar and fats provide, excessive consumption of these kinds of foods leads to feeling tired, anxious, and just plain unhealthy.

I also know that I feel mentally and physically better when I am eating more nutritious and home-cooked food – vegetables, fruits, fish, whole grains, yogurt etc. In fact, going into 2022, eating better is one of the biggest focus areas for me!

Pay attention to the kind of food you’re eating and how it’s impacting your energy. Choose more of those foods that make you feel nourished and satisfied and create your own personalized high vibration food list.

5| Spend some time in nature

This one is a relatively simple thing to do, but many of us tend to neglect it in favor of screen time, either for work or leisure.

A simple morning walk through the park, or even just sitting for a few quiet moments in a tiny home balcony can have such an uplifting impact on your energy levels.

It’s not surprising that spending time outdoors has been known to help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms. It can also improve moods, increase focus, and promote creativity.

So if you’re looking for a way to raise your vibration (and who isn’t?) step away from your screens, go outside, and enjoy nature!

6| Practice gratitude

This is something I’m trying to work on more this year, and it’s definitely a game-changer. Being grateful for even the small things in your life can really shift your energy and vibration in a positive way.

It might be hard at first, especially if you’re going through a tough time, but start by writing down five things you’re grateful for every day.

Once you start doing this on a regular basis and it really sinks into your consciousness, everything will feel better – even those little things we take for granted like having clean water or electricity, etc. It’s amazing how much our attitude and perspective can change when we start to look at life through a lens of gratitude.

7| Focus on your breathing

This is another simple but powerful way to raise your vibration. Deep, slow breathing has a calming effect on the body and mind and can help you focus and connect with your inner peace.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed, take a few deep breaths and focus on how the air feels as it enters and leaves your lungs. You might even want to try a guided meditation or visualization exercise.

The more you practice deep breathing, the easier it will become to connect with your inner peace and raise your vibration.

8| Move your body

This one is a no-brainer – exercise releases endorphins, which make us feel good. Not only that, but it also helps to clear our minds and improve our focus.

It doesn’t have to be anything strenuous or time-consuming either. A simple 20-minute walk can do the trick. Or if you’re feeling really ambitious, go for a run or even try yoga.

The idea is to get your heart rate up and feel the energy move through you – this will naturally raise your vibration so you can enjoy more of that good feeling!

Sometimes when I am feeling mentally or emotionally stuck, I just get up from my couch/chair and let my body flow through some freehand movements. I’ve started dubbing it as my high vibration flow and it probably looks pretty darn funny, but hey, it works for me! :)

9| Simplify and focus

A conversation I was having with a couple of friends this past weekend made me realize just how much stress I was placing on myself by trying to keep up with a never-ending list of need-to-dos and want-to-dos.

After all, multi-tasking really doesn’t work, and it takes up even longer to get through those lists in any case!

And yes, multi-tasking even with self-improvement doesn’t really work, no matter how tempting it is to want to overhaul our entire lives in one shot! I’ve come to realize that lasting change comes about when we focus on energy on a couple of things to start off with and then stack on as we get better at them.

So preserve your energy and direct it to the things that matter, rather than running yourself ragged trying to get everything done all at once.

10| Limit your exposure to things that drain your energy

You don’t need me to tell you about the energy drainers in your life.

You already know what they are: the continuous breaking news cycle, the doom-scrolling, that busy-body neighborhood gossip who keeps giving you unsolicited advice or asking you obtrusive questions, the relative who keeps spewing bigoted and hateful comments, the 29th social gathering of the week, and more.

Find ways of limiting your exposure to things (and people) that suck the energy out of you and establish more boundaries as needed.

11| Develop a morning and/or evening ritual

A morning ritual can help you start your day off on the right foot, while a night-time ritual can help you wind down and prepare for bed.

Your ritual could be something as simple as drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning, meditating for a few minutes, writing in your journal, or reading an inspirational book.

For evenings, you could focus on finishing your meal 3 hours before you sleep, doing some skincare, going screen-free a couple of hours before bed, and winding down by reading in bed.

Pay attention to things that help you reset or recalibrate and incorporate them into your rituals to uplift your personal vibes.

12| Make time for joy

One of the best ways to raise your vibration is to make time for joy.

This could be something as simple as tending to your plants, reading your favorite book, listening to music you love, spending time with loved ones, or savoring a delicious meal.

The key is to find what brings you happiness and make sure that you do more of it.

13| Practice kindness

Finding small ways of practicing kindness, or giving back to those less fortunate, can be a meaningful way to raise your vibration. When you focus on others, you’re spreading the abundance, and it will ultimately all come back to you, either by way of blessings or good wishes, or more positive energy.

14| Speak your affirmations out loud

You don’t necessarily need to speak your affirmations out loud, but the vibration of words is amplified when they are spoken.

Plus it’s just nice to hear yourself say positive things about yourself – even if you feel like a fraud doing so at first! Eventually, this practice will become more natural and easier on you, too.

15| Unleash your inner creator

We are all creators in our own right, and when we tap into this side of ourselves, it can be a powerful way to raise our vibration.

This could mean painting, dancing, singing, writing, cooking – anything that brings you joy and allows you to express yourself creatively. The more you do it, the easier it will become to access this part of yourself, which will make it easier to raise your vibration.

The purpose of this ‘creating’ is not for something to become your side hustle (I mean, it can, but that’s not what we’re after here), but for you to find an avenue to let your energies flow through more clearly!

16| Practice mindfulness every day

Mindfulness is the practice of staying present in any given moment, without judgment or negative thoughts. It’s also about accepting your current state and recognizing that you are not defined by what happened yesterday nor do you have control over what will happen tomorrow.

When you practice mindfulness, it becomes easier to stay in a positive state and raises your vibration as a result. You can start by practicing for just five minutes each day and then gradually increase the time as needed.

17| Let go of grudges

When you hold onto resentment, anger, or hate toward others, it’s like giving them permission to continue draining your energy.

You can’t be in a positive state if you’re holding on to negative emotions for other people (no matter how much they may deserve those feelings). Let go of the negativity and raise your vibration by forgiving those who have hurt you.

Once you have forgiven them, let go of the thoughts and feelings associated with that person entirely so they can no longer affect your energy field in a negative way. This will help raise your vibration to a higher level.

18| Love yourself

I believe that when you learn to love yourself wholly and unconditionally, when you are completely comfortable in your own skin, that is when you’re operating at your highest vibration. That does not mean that you can’t get better, or that you are without flaws… I like to think of it as having that deeply-rooted, unshakeable feeling that you are enough as you are, and you love yourself as you are.

Frankly, all of the points mentioned above are just the many ways for you to love yourself more and treat yourself better. So really, it all comes down to this: love yourself unconditionally, and you will find yourself doing more of the things that raise your vibrations.

The High-Vibe Life & Me

My life has changed a fair bit in the last 12 twelve months! From letting go of my marriage, to moving houses, to eventually moving to a new country in the middle of an ongoing pandemic, and getting used to a new way of living… it’s all been a lot of things to unpack.

And me being me, unpacking all such big life changes has meant spending some time asking myself existential questions, doing a whole lotta self-reflection, and even vision casting.

In my introspection exercises, it became abundantly clear to me that even in the pre-COVID times, for the most part, I was operating at a fairly low vibration state, and hence, attracting even more negativity into my life.

I’d love to say that I am over that phase now, but it would be far more appropriate to say that raising my vibration and taking care of my energy are some things that I am actively focusing on now. It’s going to be a big part of my life in the next few months, and I am looking forward to living a high-vibration life!

Ultimately, living a high vibration life all comes down to being mindful of what you’re consuming and creating. These are just some starter ideas to help you raise your vibration – I hope you’ll find at least one or two of these useful and that they will help you on your journey to attract even more positive energy into your life!
